Snare Drum Sheet Music Warmup: Blue Devils Spree 1999

blue devils 1999 spree sheet music

One of my favorite snare drum warmup exercises of all time is the Blue Devils Shopping Spree 1999 version. The Blue Devils used to have a warmup exercise every year called Shopping Spree but there's something about the 1999 line that stikes a chord with me. Download the complete Shopping Spree snare drum sheet music. Embedded below is a video of the actual Blue Devils drumline in the lot going shoppin. Check it out. What Spree is your favorite?

2013 WGI World Championships Recap

The 2013 WGI World Championships were held in Dayton, Ohio last weekend. Rhythm X won first place in Independent World competition with a record score of 98.263. Aimachi, the WGI group from Japan and always a fan favorite, placed 6th. In scholastic world class, for the first time ever, Dartmouth High School did NOT place in the top three (they just missed the medals by placing fourth)! Father Ryan always has entertaining shows and finally got a medal for their effort. The list of winners for each class is below (with some links to some YouTube videos):

Blue Devils Win DCI World Championships

dci world championships 2012 winner
The Blue Devils drum and Bugle Corp won their 15th Drum Corp International (DCI) World Championship on Saturday (and fourth in the last six years). The Blue Devils drumline won the top overall percussion score behind one of the best lines I've ever seen.

Carolina Crown placed second (drumline 6th) while Phantom Regiment got third and the Cadets wound up in fourth place.

Five special awards were presented during the DCI World Championships awards ceremony, each averaged after combining the scores from Prelims, Semifinals and Finals. The George Zingali Award for Best Color Guard went to Blue Devils. There was a tie for the John Brazale Best Visual Performance Award, between Blue Devils and Carolina Crown. The Jim Ott Award for Best Brass Performance went to Carolina Crown and the Fred Sanford Award for Best Percussion Performance was earned by Blue Devils, who also won the Don Angelica Award for Best Overall General Effect. Congratulations to all participating drum and bugle corps. View the full recap at DCi.org.

New Percussion and Drum Stuff Download Page

I’ve created a new page for the Percussion and Drum Stuff blog where I will be adding links to all the drumline sheet music files I’ve made available to download. You will be able to find all of our cadences and sheet music snare, tenor, bass, cymbal, battery, pit, marimba, etc. We’ve got transcriptions of some of the best indoor percussion lines out there as well as audition packets. Please comment if you have any original compositions you would like to share.

Now you won’t have to search through the whole site looking for one file. Simply go to the new page and read through the list of pdfs. The link to the downloads page is located at the top of the blog, or click here.

Please let me know if any links are not working. Thanks!

In the coming weeks I plan on adding a ton of new music so stay tuned!

Rhythm X Presents "enLIGHTened" in 2012

In 2012, Rhythm X will bring ‘enLIGHTened’ to life. Look for themes of Personal Enlightenment, the Age of Enlightenment and many actual lights to combine with Rhythm X’s trademark athleticism, musicality and innovation.

Rhythm X will be performing locally in the Mid-East Performance Association and nationally at the WGI Dayton Regional, Indianapolis Regional, Mid-South Percussion Championship and World Championships.

Rhythm X was founded in 2002 and is under the direction of Tim Jackson and Craig Dunn. In their inaugural season in WGI, Rhythm X was the PIO Champion and since joining World Class has medalled six times, winning the PIW Championship in 2008 and 2009. Designing together since 2008, Tim Fairbanks, Tim Jackson and Andrew Markworth all return to the design team to bring you Rhythm X 2012... “enLIGHTened”.

“He who knows others is wise.
He who knows himself is enlightened.”

DCI 2011 Update and Video

I had every intention to check out the DCI show in Dayton this past week but after viewing the weak performance lineup online I decided it just wasn't worth the drive. So I'm kind of bummed I probably won't be seeing any DCI shows in person this season. To cheer myself up I watched some online videos. Thank goodness for YouTube! Here are a few of my faves.

Also, I would appreciate your help in a design contest I've entered. Vote for me here: http://apps.facebook.com/dassault-catia/profile/150.html Thanks! I appreciate the support.

Drumline Sheet Music: Tom Aungst's "Alan" Exercise

This is one of my favorite exercises or warm-ups of all time. "Alan" by Tom Aungst was written either for the Cadets or Dartmouth High School, I'm not sure, but it's a really fun piece to play. Enjoy the full ensemble sheet music drumline score.

Tim Jackson Rapid Form Sheet Music

Here's the sheet music for Tim Jackson's tenor solo "Rapid Form." The end of the solo feature a ridiculously fast version of the tenor solo from Rhythm X's 2002 show "Our World " (PIO World Championship). Click the link to download the sheet music pdf. I've also embedded a video below so you can play along (yeah right).

DCI Schedule

I took a look at the DCI schedule today. Another disappointment for me, I may not even have the opportunity to catch a show until August! That sucks. It's been so long since I've been able to see a good drum show. What shows are you planning on attending? Who are you looking forward to seeing in action this year?

Also, is there really no show in Columbus, OH this year? WTF?!
